Does God ever Dream?

God is a Spirit, so he doesn’t have nightly REM dreams with his eyes shut. He doesn’t wake up wondering what His dream was about. He doesn’t dream that He is flying. He doesn’t have nightmares.

But that doesn’t mean God doesn’t dream! Go to his Word and read with your heart wide open. Catch the rhythms, the recurring pattern that plays throughout the big story of the whole Bible. Calm your mind and read the words with your heart:

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth…”

“God made man in his own image. In the image of God he made him; male and female he created them…”

“And God saw that it was very good.”

“Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree from which I commanded you not to eat?”

“The woman you made; she gave the fruit to me, and I ate…[Adam]”

 “The serpent deceived me…[Eve]”

“Am I my brother’s keeper? [Cain]”

“And God saw that every inclination of the thoughts of man was only evil all the time. And God was sorry that he had made mankind on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.”

“Abram, go into the land I will show you…”

“I will bless you, and you shall be a blessing. Whoever curses you I will curse, and whoever blesses you I will bless; and all nations on earth shall be blessed through you…”

“Because you have not withheld from me your only son… all nations on earth shall be blessed through you [Abraham].”

“All nations on earth shall be blessed through you [Isaac]…”

“All nations on earth shall be blessed through you [Jacob]…”

“The nobles of the nations shall assemble as the people of the God of Abraham [Psalms].”

“My Name shall be great among the nations [Malachi].”

“My eyes have seen your salvation, a light for the Gentiles [nations] [Simeon].”

“Go into all the world and Make Disciples of all peoples… [the risen Jesus]”

“The scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and proclaimed the Gospel in advance to Abraham: ‘Through you shall all the nations of the Earth be blessed’ [Paul – Galatians]”

“Every tribe, and nation, and people, and language [Revelation 5.]”

“Every tribe, and nation, and people, and language [Revelation 7.”]

“The nobles of the nations will bring the glory of the nations into that city [Rev. 21].”

…Does God dream? Perhaps not about houses, possessions, pleasure, or fame – but God does dream! He dreams wide-eyed, fully-aware, determined, impossible dreams.

God dreams that the people he made for his own glory who have now become his enemies will one day be restored; that all the peoples of the earth will find their place of permanent blessing in eternal worshipful relationship with God.

God Dreams…and he’s saving a place in His Dream for you!
